La prima trasformazione del giardino risale alla metà del XVII secolo e risente dell'influenza del Buontalenti sia per l'uso dell'acqua sia per la presenza di statue gigantesche. All'impianto all'italiana si aggiunge la ricerca dell'effetto scenografico che culmina nella gigantesca figura di "Polifemo che beve all'otre", opera di Antonio Novelli.

The first transformation of the garden takes place in the half of the 17th century and it reflects Buontalenti's influence both for the utilization of water and for the presence of gigantic statues. The scenographic effect was added to the ancient structure, as can be seen in the "Polyphemus drinking from the leather bag" realised by Antonio Novelli.
